2011

Heiiii guyszsz. It's almost 2011!

San Diego + 10 Things I Want To Do in 2011

As you know, I got back from San Diego yesterday night. I had a pretty good time, disregarding the fact that every single teenage girl there felt the need to wear mini shorts and UGGS. It was 60 degrees. Wear UGGS when it's below freezing and you're alone and need to go to the supermarket.

The hotel we stayed at had this really great in-room mini bar but of course everything in it cost about 1000000 dollars. You had to pay $5 to use the "first aid kit" which was basically a plastic bag containing a couple band aids, a piece of cotton and these disinfecting wipes.
These were cute even though it's kind of illegal for me to drink the contents.

"Intimacy Kit" and gummy bears in a jar SHAPED LIKE A GUMMY BEAR.

My dad took this one. I think it's worthy of a postcard.

Since it's just a matter of hours before the New Year, I thought I would list some things I would like to do by the time December 31st, 2011 rolls around.
  1. Buy a pair of Camilla Skovgaard saw heel wedges using newfound babysitting money.
  2. Familiarize myself with more prominent fashion photographers' work. Enough of Juergen Teller, Steven Meisel, and Terry Richardson, for now at least.
  3. Subscribe to Dazed and Confused. How great would it be if I gifted my school a subscription?
  4. Read Vogue France and Vogue Nippon regularly.
  5. Buy something from Forever 21, or at least walk into the store. I have never done this and don't actually want to, but I feel like it's a rite of passage.
  6. Look at every single Fall 2011 collection from New York Fashion Week on style.com.
  7. Sew more.
  8. Go to Los Angeles and walk down the Sunset Strip. And eat at The Rainbow.
  9. Practice fashion illustration more, maybe like 20 times more frequently than I currently do which is about once a month.
Here's some extra ones I thought of:
  1. Travel to Prague and/or Italy
  2. See Motley Crue live
  3. Do more community service regardless of the credit I get for school
  4. Walk the Freedom Tunnel (maybe; I don't want to get arrested).

VayCayCay Time

I probably won't get a chance to post for the next 5 days. Tomorrow I've got to wake up at 5:45 am to catch an 8:30 flight to San Diego, California, with the parentals. I'll be in Cali for until the 30th. I have this insane fear of checking my luggage. If my suitcase gets lost I will die, no exaggeration. So basically I try and block my suitcase from view while we get our boarding passes and smile so they think I'm a nice child. Then I make sure to get on the plane first and put my suitcase up in the storage area before the flight attendant has a chance to tell me it's too big to carry on, which it's not. I am so stealth.

Merry Christmas To Me + Freaks and Geeks

This Christmas has been sterling for I RECEIVED THE JUERGEN TELLER MARC JACOBS ADVERTISING 1998-2009 BOOK. Thank you, Parentals. Thaaaaaank you!

Do you recognize this? Look to the sidebar on your right.

Kitteh!

Also I've been re-watching a ridiculous amount of Freaks and Geeks lately. It is such a good show. I don't understand why anyone would bother canceling a show that features Seth Rogen and James Franco. It's like Pineapple Express except with a completely different plot line and set in high school and like 10 times cooler. Also Freaks and Geeks came first. Plus its soundtrack is comprised of Cheap Trick and Janis Joplin which earns major points.

I <3 high skewl
FYI this picture is from Pineapple Express

I hope you are all having a very merry Christmas.

P.S. I caved and ended up purchasing "We R Who We R." I also bought "Trouble Is A Friend" from the Easy A soundtrack.

"This Hand Model Seems Cool" and a Very Ke$ha Christmas

Thanks to Aviva of Buzznet, I was able to read a particularly hilarious article on The Hairpin about top hand model, Ellen Sirot. (You should also check out Aviva's listicle of all the Dumb and Awesome things that happened at Buzznet headquarters this year. It might make you want to join Buzznet in all its awesome glory. Click HERE.) I'm sorry to say, if I ever met Ellen Sirot I doubt we would get along. I know hand modeling is her livelihood, but I kind of snorted when the video showed her getting into the elevator, wearing black gloves and holding her arms up. Yeah, she wears gloves everyday. And she strokes her hands a lot.

I spent an hour watching of Ke$ha's music videos for "Tik Tok," "We R Who We R" and such with my dad (long story short we are testing the Apple TV thing we got for the holidays). He got a kick out of "tik tok Kesha chipmunk funny cute official video." I think he enjoyed listening to Ke$ha's voice electronically made 2000000000 octaves higher even more than seeing her stumble around with swagger and sing about how her tights are ripped up the sides and stuff like that. The thing about Ke$ha is that despite her stupid gold grill on one tooth, and her lyrics that try to convey some carefree, edgy party girl persona, HER SONGS ARE CATCHY AND GET STUCK IN YOUR HEAD DURING MATH CLASS AND MAKE YOU WANT TO BUY THEM. So I guess I'm spending my Christmas Eve neglecting to take a shower so I can sit here blogging about Ke$ha while listening to "Dinosaur" and debating whether I should buy "We R Who We R."

Also I know I haven't posted ugly shoes in a while so here's your daily dose. It should probably tide you over until the New Year.
Rick Owens you disappoint me.
They're Nikes except they look like tanks!
 Jimmy Choo for UGG

If you celebrate Christmas, have a great day tomorrow! If you don't celebrate Christmas I hope you have an equally extraordinary day!

Inferno Prints, Grapefruit Scrub and Baptiste Giabiconi Sings.

I ordered two prints from Black Baroque, a store on Etsy that prints images over vintage book pages, and they arrived in the mail last week. I still need to buy frames for each of them, but they are so rad!
This one is a vintage page from Dante's Inferno.
Little Red Riding Hood

Yesterday I made this Grapefruit-Olive Oil-Sugar scrub. Our fridge is in excess of grapefruits, since our neighbors offered us a full carton of them a few days ago. The scrub ended up looking like orange vomit but it worked well!
Basically, you just use a spoon to scoop out half a grapefruit. Then, pour in some olive oil and add sugar until its consistency is sort of gloopy and not too watery. It ain't rocket science.

LASTLY. Maybe I'm slow, but I just found out that Baptiste Giabiconi (ranked #1 on models.com, muse to Karl Lagerfeld) sings? He looks like a mainstream, mother-friendly version of Adam Lambert, at least in his music video for "Showtime," a painfully teeny-bopper Disney-lyrics song. The story of the video is probably what you'd expect: Baptiste meets this girl, who conveniently has an abusive boyfriend. Even though Baptiste and this girl have never spoken, but simply exchanged a few intense looks full of LOVE AND LONGING, the girl wants in with Baptiste (I mean he probably makes a lot more money than Abusive Boyfriend). So, much to Abusive Boyfriend's dismay, Baptiste runs away with her. Abusive Boyfriend has two fat cronies that help him search for Baptiste and the girl, but they don't have much luck. They're like Draco Malfoy and Crabbe and Goyle.
Also, Baptiste has superpowers that allows him to blow stuff up when his eyes glint red. I am like, sitting on the edge of my seat now because at the end of the video it says "To Be Continued" and I can't wait to find out what happens next. Karl (Lagerfeld) thinks Baptiste has a beautiful voice though, so I guess I can just suck it.

I laugh at this picture.
Watch "Showtime" HERE.

Gisele! GISELE!

Gisele (Bundchen, obviously) is the new face of Balenciaga's Spring 2011 ad campaign! And Yuri Pleskun will be appearing beside her (actually behind her) as a half-naked forest nymph wearing eyeshadow! The campaign breaks in late January/early February so keep your eyes peeled while flipping through your next issue of Vogue.

New York Magazine puts it perfectly:
"But doesn't she look so youthful? And sad in that terribly fashionable way? We like this new side of Gisele. There's no better way to do postpartum than by aging negative ten years."

More Stuff I Like

I have Daphne Guinness on the mind. Why is she so terribly stylish? I think my favorite quote of hers is"I'm dressed really weird."

I also found this Etsy store that sells horrifically campy shoes, probably even campier than the sparkly felt gingerbread house sitting on my dining room table.
You can shop "Sole Sensations, Fantasy Shoe Sculpture by: Robert Taylor" HERE.

Anyway, I thought I would share photos from a few of my favorite editorials. I added some of them to the sidebar on your right, but I want to put them on here so you can enjoy in their full glory.

I'm getting my braces off tomorrow! (<---- teen situationz)

Hahahahaha What. Bridal Tennis Shoes and Flowers and Stuff.

I stumbled upon these while browsing the wonderful world wide web. I gagged a little.

You can find these on The Lovely Bride, an online store dedicated to bringing super-saavy brides comfortable and "stylish" shoes for their big day.

"The Lovely Bride offers a wide selection of comfortable wedding shoes and bridal sneakers for brides who want to have fun on their wedding day. With our wedding tennis shoes, brides can be comfortable and look taller at the same time. By matching the heel height of your wedding sneakers to your dressy heels you can be confident that when you change into your bridal sneakers your dress will not drag and become dirty.  The ivory color of our shoes will blend perfectly with most gowns."

NO.

look at that bootiful christmas tree!
HAPPY HOLL'DAYZ YA'LL!

Oooh. Speaking of weddings (thanks, The Lovely Bride, for scarring my eyes), take a looky.
Apparently Jake bought TayTay an 11,000 dollar guitar for her birthday. As the Daily Mail nicely put it, "Jake Gyllenhaal got his girlfriend (!) Taylor Swift an $11,000 guitar for her 21st birthday. It is a "vintage Gretsch guitar signed by country star Chet Atkins." Then they probably spent the whole day ambling around Park Slope, sipping lattes and eating apples and sitting by the fire and doing crafts and babysitting people's kids and writing poems. They are soooooo in love."

HMMMM.

A Snippet of the Holidays...Campy Decorations, Gothic Glamour and Secret Santa

Don't we all love the holiday season? For some reason beyond me, my parents have insisted on displaying this horrifically campy gingerbread house on our dining room table. It's not even made out of real gingerbread and candy. The walls are made of felt, the decorations are plastic pieces of candy smothered in glitter, and the snow is cotton that sheds all over the place.
JOY.
I also got a coffee-table sort of book called "Gothic: Dark Glamour" by Valerie Steele, the curator for the Museum at FIT.
Thank you to the 'rents!

At And at school we did this Secret Santa/Snowflake/Hanukkah Harry thing. I think my Secret Santee was slightly disappointed to open his present and find a pack of basketball-shaped playing cards. I bravely entered the NBA store to buy those cards so I believe that should count for something. However, I do feel like somewhat of a cop-out gift buyer because I didn't even go up to the $10 limit; the cards were 4 bucks. I wasn't going to spend more time in the NBA store than necessary if you know what I mean.
On the other hand, I received a pretty baller present—this Muji shirt that is vacuumed packed into a cube. I unraveled it when I got home and was quite impressed.
